Thanks for the kind words Norma. Much appreciated. I'm glad that others find funny what I find funny - makes we feel less awkward about the things that make me laugh.

Traci,

I think you brought up an interesting point: "Are we that selfish anymore that we can’t allow some kindness for our fellow human being’s? If you want to expand this, what will we do to each other if the world decides to come to an end?" Hypothetically speaking, if we as a people are in a position where the world is ending and resources become scarce, we will, in general, see a lot more of the stereotypical selfish behavior. The fear of the situation will likely bring it out in people. I'm not one who believes in altruism, but that type of ideology would put a person at a severe disadvantage in a "world ending" type situation. Hell, it puts some folks at a disadvantage now - email scams for example.

We've created standards, one being the law. If we don't hold people to it, then what use is that standard...it really isn't a standard at all. Given that we create the standard, we can also change those we disagree with. Might take some time and effort as politics tend to slow intelligent processes down, but if we were that far off in creating our standards in the first place, isn't it worth the extra time to correct it?

Thanks for the interesting points, thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.

What has happened to "just let the man be and let him charge his phone?" Are we that selfish anymore that we can't allow some kindness for our fellow human being's? If you want to expand this, what will we do to each other if the world decides to come to an end? How are we going to treat each other then? How many of us have guns to defend ourselves from some one stealing electricity? And how do you figure Marc IS AN ASSHOLE? I think what bothers some people,as I know it did me at first, was that Marc is secure enough to be able to speak his own mind no matter who he pisses off. Granted with some maturing on his part as he ages and he learns the ins and outs of opening his mouth at the right or wrong time he is his own person. I think that Marc is an asshole, but a secure asshole and if the time comes when we need to be cared for by family I want him to be in my corner because he does say what he thinks and again that may piss some people off, but what the hell? Life goes on, eh?

Jason,

I think you've hit this one on the head. There are so many variables that should be identified when analyzing a situation. In additional, there are thousands more variables that determine how one performs analysis.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.

"Charged for charging" - I love the english language for it's multiple meanings of the same root word. In fact, according to dictionary.com using charged or charging as a verb has 6 different meanings. In a relatively similar way each individual has a unique perspective of the world. Your perspective on the story changes determined by the how you view the situation. Do you identify more with the homeless man's position or the police officer's position? What is the owner of the business who is paying for the electric bill's view of the issue? How is the law defined? What are the judge's influences? Your perception of this issue is also altered by all of the previous influences in your life. How were you raised? Where were your raised? What happened yesterday? What you think will happen in the future? What mood were you in when you read the article? Your view of the situation is also is developed by the amount of information given in the article. After reading the article there are likely more questions that you could ask to clarify the situation and those answers would be important to your perspective as well. Was the building or outlet marked for private use? Was it a small business or large box store? How much is the servce for the cell phone? Did the man have an important phone call to make? What is considered important? What I'm trying to say here is that you can make an initial judgement of this situation but your perspective is determinate on many factors and what you feel about it today may change in the future. Just as weather you think @marclimon is an asshole depends on your previous interactions and perceptions of @marclimon and every situation you've encountered your entire life.

Dominic,

Is this news story? I'd say probably not. More of something I would expect to see in the Community/Life section purposefully to spur discussion. I have no idea if it was posted for shock. Can't say. It's a possibility.

I also don't think it's safe to assume this man stole the cell phones.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.

My whole issue isn't about the theft, but that this story was only posted for that "shock' value. The people that have stolen cell phones and even gotten caught have never made any headlines I've ever come across. So why put this story online?
As for the crime. I wouldn't even think it as theft of service, but theft of the cell phone. How else do you get someones personal phone and get the wall charger with it? If the phone was dropped or left somewhere... no one carries a wall charger in their pocket with it. But still a useless story. What end result is there? Nothing really. He already has nothing.
Funny thing is my dads cell phone got stolen and my dad agreed to meet the person and buy it back... and my dad called the police and they said they would not meet up at the meeting place and he was just out of luck. My dad never got his phone back. Just too dangerous. And yes he stopped his service on that number so the phone was useless unless someone got a new service and SIM card for it. So I do wonder why the owners of the two cellphones didn't cancel their service. A bit their fault he was using their service provider.

Cody,

Yup, you got soapboxy alright, lol. There seems to be a disconnect between how people view themselves, how they expect others to behave/think and what is expected from someone who is perceived as a victim. I found it very disconcerting that twice during that whole FB convo folks "high horsed" themselves with examples of their morality, made statements about others (police officer and/or me) which appeared to lack said morality and totally failed to hold the homeless man to that standard at all. Too much inconsistency.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the comment.
